About me

Sitting on a bench.Angela Williamson counsellor for anxiety, depression, feeling sad & relationships

I am an experienced psychotherapist, accredited with the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP).

I have a deep passion for helping others and throughout my career progression this has been my motivation and driving force. It inspires me to keep learning to be the best support I can be to my clients, and I regularly attend training and workshops as part of my continuing professional development.

I work exclusively in private practice providing confidential, safe, and welcoming safe space where you can share and talk through what’s troubling you.

My earlier experience includes counselling in a hospice setting and working with NHS staff members.

My work, training and experience includes Walk and Talk Therapy. Some of my clients prefer to be outdoors rather than in the counselling room. I offer walk and talk counselling sessions incorporating nature into the work in the Bakewell, Buxton and Tideswell areas.

In addition to counselling I am a trained personal coach helping clients to achieve their personal and professional goals, make lifestyle changes and navigate challenging life transitions.

I have a deep understanding of cultural diversity having lived abroad as an expatriate for several years before settling in the High Peak.

I am based in Bakewell and also offer Walk and Talk therapy in Buxton.

I can help with

  • Low mood and depression
  • Low self-esteem and low self-worth
  • Stress and work related issues
  • Anger Management
  • Trauma, including trauma experienced in childhood
  • Social anxiety
  •  Anxiety
  • Health Anxiety
  • General anxiety
  • Panic attacks
  • PTSD
  • Relationship issues
  • Communication difficulties
  • Bereavement, grief and loss
  • Loneliness and feelings of rejection
  • Phobias
  • Burnout
  • Illness and Disability including chronic illness like Myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) and fibromyalgia, acute and rare illnesses, and cancer.
  • Life changes and transitions including job loss, family changes, returning to work after an extended break, and retirement.

How I became a Counsellor

My work experience has always been people centred and I started my career as a Human Resources Generalist. I have a bachelor’s degree in human resources management.

Transitioning into working with people on a more personal level was a natural progression for me. I achieved a graduate certificate with Coach U and moved into coaching.

Following a challenging health setback, I devoted my time and energies to becoming a qualified psychotherapist and I’ve never looked back. Working with clients, providing a safe space to talked about their issues and finding ways to cope and live a more fulfilled life is more than a job for me. It’s a vocation.
